Holding on to God’s faithfulness and grace despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Novaliches Christian Fellowship celebrated its 28th Anniversary this entire month of August 2020. With the theme “Pressed Yet Pressing On” from 2 Corinthians 4:7-10, this year’s celebration was unprecedented, both in terms of the challenges during the ongoing community quarantine and the Lord’s abundant provisions that made the anniversary push through on a scale that the congregation has never done before. Social distancing measures have reduced the number of physical attendees to the sanctuary at a bare minimum, but with the talents and hardwork of NCF’s multimedia team, the congregation was able to continuously hold its service online, allowing the rest of the members to participate wherever they are, including many of NCF’s members and friends abroad. Maximizing the blessings of the Internet and social media,
So began the celebration on August 2. The praise-and-worship was led by the Music Ministry, with a cover of “Pressed, But Not Crushed” by Shannan Miller adopted as the anniversary theme song. During the preaching, NCF Senior Pastor, Rev. Mark Dantes, drew from God’s Word to emphasize the need to keep the faith despite the pressures of the pandemic. Resilience during times of crisis and looking forward to the Lord’s promises would continue to be the exhortation for the next Sundays. After the service, the congregation were treated to an afternoon anniversary fellowship via Zoom. Far from each other but united in spirit, each family held the annual Love Feast online along with the few who were hosting the service in the sanctuary. After a lunch full of fellowship and kumustahan, young and digitally-savvy Clayhouse ministry hosted several games actively participated in by members of all ages.
The next Sundays would bring even more challenges with the reimposition of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine over NCR, and while there were no physical attendees until August 18, the youth presented a number of special performances, such as a dance cover of the song “Tribes” by Victory Fellowship performed by the Movers Dance Ministry. Meanwhile, children never fail to make us smile as they sang in unison to the tune of Every Move I Make by Hillsong Kids. Finally, the anniversary celebration was capped on August 30 with a special testimony from TV host and Filipino sports enthusiast Dyan Castillejo, who encouraged the congregation. Drawing from Ephesians 3:20, she shared her life story and how God provided for them in each and every challenge, “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us…” Truly, NCF will continue to press on with the fellowship of the brethren, by God’s grace, even during these trying times. May God continue to bless NCF in the years to come!
